I've just about finished compiling the RSVP's for the June 4th event at the Aladdin Casino. We have at least 59 and as many as 66 depending on a few loose ends. That doesn't include any invited guests or pros that we hope to include. That means there will almost certainly be a waiting list. At best, we'll be able to push the Aladdin to 6 tables of 10 players, but nothing more.
I will get the list posted soon so those of you on the waiting list will know in case that means your plans will change. I've heard from a few players that if they aren't in the tourney, they'd rather not come. I think that's the wrong way to look at this. It's going to be an amazing weekend, with or without the tourney! It's a chance to meet some great people and have fun slinging cards. I hope you all decide to come, tournament or not!
I'll have to agree w/CJ. Last time, I probably spent only 30 minutes in the tournament. In fact, the actual tourney was the least memorable part of my trip. It's not like there's nothing else to do there :)
Posted by: BadBlood at March 27, 2005 3:52 PMI agree with Blood. The tourney is nice but it's really the excuse to get together. The other games and the chance to meet the bloggers you read is the best reason to attend.
Posted by: AlCantHang at March 27, 2005 5:10 PMamen to the above. hell, i'll prolly be too drunk to play in the tourney again, so feel free to give someone my spot if they insist on a seat.
Posted by: iggy at March 27, 2005 7:23 PMI was one, prolly the only one, that commented that I couldn't or wouldn't go if not in the tourney, and I didn't mean anything negative about it.... I've been wanting to visit Vegas practically my whole life.. and I can't do it on a shoe string budget... I can sit at home and watch tv for 2 days, which is what I would end up doing in Vegas, on my budget..... that is/was my train of thought... but, I'm diligently working on getting enuff money together to make the trip.
Thing is, I figured once I won the tourney, then that would pay for all my trip.. :)
I did find a seemingly good deal for a 3 night stay including air... $300.00??? now to just earn some gambling, err, poker money..... :)
Posted by: Slayre at March 28, 2005 7:58 AMI'm hoping to play so I can get the same view of the shapely waitress that bounced over to my table countless times last week.
Posted by: Drizztdj at March 28, 2005 9:41 AMDon't worry, Slayre, it wasn't just you. And I'm not trying to put down those who want to come just for the tourney. I'm just trying to convey how great a time you'll have whether you're in the tourney or not!!!!!
Posted by: CJ at March 28, 2005 1:02 PMFuck.
I just don't think I can swing it this time around.
If I do it'll likely be last minute again.
Elway-esque.
Posted by: Daddy at March 28, 2005 6:00 PMI ditto Iggy. Money is really tight for me now; I may end up having to sell my body, mind, and soul just to get to Vegas, and quite frankly, I'm not sure that I'll get that high of a price.
I'm a little more confident in my ROI at a cash game than a tourney, so by all means CJ, bump me if you need to - my buyin can certaintly be spent elsewhere!
Posted by: April at March 28, 2005 9:57 PMFYI, I'm still on the fence. I just got a $200 price break on the wedding that I have to attend in Chicago the prior wedding (the groom's father agreed to pick up the cost of the hotel rooms of his close friends) but the wedding is still probably going to run me around $450-$500. I'm not sure I can justify another $500 trip the following weekend...
Why can't you all come to AC! Oh, that's right, because AC sucks. A better question is "FTrain, why don't you still live in LA?"
I wish I had an answer for that question.
Posted by: asphnxma at March 29, 2005 8:55 AMI got the money right now for the airfare and hotel... and should have a couple 100 after that... this does not include any 'earnings' online between now and then.... so, Im pretty sure I will book my trip this weekend.. Im just trying desperately to find the best price... hate to book a trip and find out the next day coulda got there cheaper... any word on room deals?
Posted by: Slayre at March 29, 2005 10:32 AMNo good news on rooms... many are trying The Plaza downtown, others will be on the Strip.
Posted by: CJ at March 29, 2005 10:42 AMI am going to try to attend in some fashion. Initially I planned to play in the tourney but the day that the info was posted, my mom called to inform me that we would be having a huge family reunion that very same weekend!!! So now the plan is to hop on a flight, get in 24 - 30 hours of drinking, gambling, and crazy shit talking, then fly back. I am a sick puppy indeed.
