Help?

by Luckbox

This is completely off-topic and this post will be deleted as soon as I get the help I need. So bear with me...

How do I change the values in the column of an Excel document from a percent to just a whole number? For example, I would like 12% to read "12" instead of "0.12". Do I make sense? In other words, I want to get rid of the percent sign but keep the whole number. When I format the cells from "percentage" to "general," "number" or "text," I get the decimal places. I know I can simply change the format and then re-type each number, but that's too time-consuming. I figure one of you industrious types know a better way.

Can you believe I'm using a poker blog to ask this question? My thanks in advance.

Right click on the cell or cells, then pick format, then number, then number again.

I forgot to say that you have to change it to no decimal places to show the whole number. You can do this to individual cells, columns or whatever.

Hmmm... I'm not sure I follow. I've highlighted the entire column and then picked "Format Cells." When I pick number and click OK, I get the decimals. If I change it to no decimal places, I get 0.

you can put the number 100 in another cell, copy that value (100), then paste "special" over you range, checking the "multiply" option in the paste special box. then reformat to suit your taste

Insert a new column beside the one you have. Let's say the old column is C, the new on D. In cell D1 (or whereever)type

= C1*100

then copy and paste that formula over the relevant cells.

Now hide column C.

The point is that 12% *is* 0.12 and Excel isn't going to let you make the math mistake of pretending it isn't. Good old Excel.

Hey Luckbox,

If you can live with 0.12 looking like 12%, just highlight the entire column and then click on the % button at the top of the toolbar.

If you don't have the button, just highlight the cell and click on format, cells, number and percentage. Then adjust the decimal places.

The only other way I know of is..........manually doing everything all ef'in over again.

Sorry if this was no help.

You guys are awesome. Those last couple suggestions will likely do the trick.
