Should we all be screaming blog thief?
UPDATE!
Heath, with the Blog Bunch, has removed Up For Poker from his listing. If other poker bloggers wish to do the same, I'd suggest sending an email.
Not a whole lot to be done about it. That's one of the reasons I hate having full entries in the feeds. It makes it easy for these kinds of sites to appropriate our content.
Posted by: CJ at October 23, 2005 11:08 PMWhenever I come across something like that I usually point out that the work on my page is copyrighted and does not permit reproduction for commercial purposes, Creative Commons license, blah blah blah. Usually within a few days it's taken down.
If someone really wants to get nasty, though, you could do a WHOIS and file a complaint with the ISP under DMCA (google for DMCA and nastygram) - DMCA makes unauthorized reproduction of copyrighted material a surprisingly serious matter and ISPs have no choice but to promptly shut down the sites, since otherwise the ISPs can face liability themselves.

Posted by: Nevabettor at October 24, 2005 8:40 AMShell site. Get a rope.
Posted by: Drizztdj at October 24, 2005 9:02 AMThis blog has gotten so cheesy. Be thankful people out there are still directing people to your site. I imagine your hit count has dropped steadily over the last few months
[Editor's note: Traffic has never been higher. Thanks for being one of those readers!]

I like Cheese.
Posted by: Chilly at October 24, 2005 10:39 AMI only read because I like your list of other blogs down the left. To be honest, this used to be one of my favorite blogs but I dont know what happened. It seems to have lost touch with what made it good before. Now it seems like grandiose ego display instead of good old down to earth poker talk.
Posted by: at October 24, 2005 12:19 PMI personally prefer the Grandiose Ego Display of late. The more cheese the better. How strange to make such an incendiary yet anonymous post. I would rather be cheesy than a coward...
Posted by: BigMike at October 24, 2005 12:50 PMWell geez, with an Ego as large as GRob's, I have trouble keeping up. And for crying out loud... don't you know who Otis is!?!?!!?
But thanks for reading. We love all our readers. And we aim to please. You tell me what you want me to write about, and I'll write it! More hand histories? Just say the word. Bad beat stories? I'm there for you.
And you don't have to go on being anonymous. You have nothing to fear in the happy little world of Up For Poker!
Posted by: CJ at October 24, 2005 12:54 PMI come here every day and enjoy the content. In any case, if you don't like it, why come here (use the Favorites menu dammit!) and slam them anonymously? Sad.
Keep up the good work, guys!-
Posted by: Brian at October 24, 2005 1:03 PMCheese is good. Cheezy-poofs + BigMike + Lefty = funny & kinda gross.
All hail Cheese!
But seriously, this is one of my favorite blogs to read, I enjoy the different writing and storytelling styles you guys have. So F the anonymous naysayers.
Posted by: Falstaff at October 24, 2005 4:32 PMAnonymous heckler again (also, someone railed on me for posting anonymously but I really AM anonymous as none of you know me. And aren't you all pretty much anonymous?)
Sorry CJ, I did not mean you. I actually enjoy your posts about the poker games at the trailer, etc. In fact, you are the one guy who mainly sticks to writing about poker.
Otis, Otis, Otis. I know you all revere him like a god. In fact, his writing is what got me reading here in the first place. It was great. But right about the time Hunter Thompson passed away, it seems like Otis is doing his darnednest to be the next H.T. It just doesn't seem honest to me. I know there is talent there but he seems to be trying to hard to make all posts be the next great american novel. When you find yourself writing your posts, then reviewing them, re-reviewing them, taking them to the editor, etc....
Grob - that is probably where the ego comment came from. no comment.
Posted by: at October 24, 2005 5:17 PMLove cheese, can't eat cheese curls anymore. The memory is too painful.
Otis and Hunter S. Thompson. I never did see the two of them in the same room together. Interesting. Anonymous could really be on to something.
Speaking as one satisfied reader, I must say I do not revere Otis like a god. He is more like a kindred omnipresent, omnicient, omnipotent spirit. I won't spell check, it may come off as less than honest.
Posted by: BigMike at October 24, 2005 5:37 PMWhatever anonymous guy/girl, our work doesn't need to be defended. We enjoy doing and people seem to dig it. And if they didn't dig it, we'd still do it. It's not about readership. If it were, Tri-Clops would have died an early death (thank you to the 12 people who stop by over there). Long live cheese puffs!!!
Posted by: CJ at October 24, 2005 6:14 PMTrue. Keep it up. At least you are persistent in keeping current content. And even though I criticize, I enjoy the blog 70% of the time. Kind of like a T.V. show. Not every episode can be good. In fact, there are few blogs that can churn out consistently good output. Paul Phillips blog is an exception.
Posted by: at October 24, 2005 6:37 PMMe?
Little old me?
Eeeeesh
Can't we be friends?
Posted by: G-Rob at October 24, 2005 7:32 PMAnonymous dude,
I'm sorry. You picked on my husband. Now I must pick on you. You sound like Jan Brady. "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha! She always gets all the boys! Poor me! Pay attention to me!" I'm sure Otis takes it as a compliment that you think he's trying to take up where Hunter Thompson left off. If you think he's trying to make each of his posts the next great American novel, then you must agree it's good and worthy of great American novel status. I'm all for the Marketplace of Ideas. You can have your opinion. At least have the balls to say who you are.
Damn, now you gone and done it... got Mrs. Otis all riled up!
And Paul Phillips? They guy can play, sure... but his blog? I suppose if you like game theory mixed with IT blabber.
Posted by: CJ at October 24, 2005 11:10 PMOh Christ, Mrs. Otis has stepped in:
"Now you're all in BIG trouble!"
(From Billy Madison, the part where he catches the dodgeball)
Posted by: Uncle Ted at October 25, 2005 3:08 AMSorry miss Otis. I do have respect for your husband. He sounds like a great guy. And when I first read this blog I thought it was some of the best writing out there. Just thought his writing as of late had taken a downturn that didn't suit MY tastes. I am certainly not the end all critic. I am sure you have seen many movies where the critics love it and you hated it and vice versa. So dont take it personal. You can't please everyone. Also, I am not saying his writing is bad. I am saying it was once great and now I think it is 'good, but not as great'.
And besides, the guy is crushing the poker tables so you may not have to worry if his writing is any good anyways.
I posted my name. The whole 'reveal who you are' thing is kind of funny. I am truly an anonymous person out in cyberspace who has never met any of you.
Posted by: John Doe at October 25, 2005 10:47 AMJohn Doe,
Your sense of humor is mildly amusing. It's a very small world out there, even in this seemingly infinite internet community. You should understand that writing is a very personal craft, and when you criticize someone's writing, it's personal...intended or not. My husband writes because he loves it. In fact, when you're born with a talent that is a part of your soul, you have no choice but to do it. Writers must write. When they write, they must try to make their latest creation better than the last. They have no choice in that. It's simply a part of who they are. I'm sorry if you feel that he's not being sincere in his latest writings. You, Mr. Anonymous, obviously don't know him at all. That's sad for you...not him.
You guys are all a trip. Thanks for the laughs.
Posted by: Otis at October 25, 2005 11:44 AMWell, regardless of what I say, damn, what a good wife! Otis is one lucky bastard. I think the only time my wife has stood up for me is when someone has said something nice to me and she would tell them 'oh, no, he's not all that. He really is an asshole.'
Just ignore my opinion on the writing. I am sure I am in the minority.
Posted by: John Doe at October 25, 2005 11:53 AMDoe,
I've got a pretty thick skin and take any critisim happily. And, yeah, Mrs. Otis is a damned good wife. She'll jump to my defense just about any time (except when I've been drinking...)
Thanks for reading and I hope you continue to visit us here.
Maybe someday we'll meet at the tables. I'll be the guy value calling the nuts. :)
Posted by: Otis at October 25, 2005 12:45 PMHere Here! Three cheers for the lovely Mrs. Otis. Her greatness is something we can all agree upon.
Posted by: BigMike at October 25, 2005 9:46 PMIn like lion. Out like lamb. Mrs. Otis is way fierce.
Posted by: Otit at October 26, 2005 8:37 AMWho woke up the Mrs.???
